Herne Bay is a great place to shop and has many independent specialty shops. There is very little you cannot find in the Bay and we are keen to help you find your way around.
There are a number of key shopping areas in Herne Bay as follows:
Herne Bay High Street runs from the junction with Canterbury Road through the centre of town and then becomes Sea Street.
All the major banks and most of the town’s estate agents can be found here, as well as the Library, Fire Station and Bus Garage. Independent retailers along the High Street include Gatefield Sounds, Dunn’s bakery, the Herne Bay Pet Shop and the legendary Briggsy’s Antique Emporium at the old cinema.
Mortimer Street is a paved pedestrian street which runs parallel to the High Street and the seafront.
Here you’ll find a few chain retailers, like Boots, New Look, Carphone Warehouse and Iceland, alongside more independent shops. Veggie Perrins sells spices and cooking ingredients, Warreners sells sportswear and goods, The Music Bay has sheet music and musical instruments and The Bike Warehouse has everything a cyclist needs. There is a huge selection of second hand books at the Demelza House Hospice bookshop. Just around the corner in North Street, you’ll find fabulous gifts at Ophelia and furniture and mirrors at Coastal Interiors.
William Street links the seafront to the centre of town and is also partly paved. Herne Bay market takes place every Saturday morning from 9am – 1pm in the carpark behind Morrison’s supermarket on Beach Street. Further down Beach Street you will find Heart and Soul, a new decorating and furniture business.
