Places to stay

In its Victorian and Edwardian heyday, Herne Bay had many grand hotels as well as lodging houses and apartments to rent for the holidays.  Pierhead Publications has a great book about Herne Bay’s historic hotels and pubs by John Fishpool, available from their website.

Now the town’s accommodation is mainly Guest Houses and B&Bs.

Evening Tide on the seafront in Central Parade is strongly recommended by Trip Advisor guests who enjoy the warm welcome and fantastic breakfasts delivered by Eric and Colleen.

The Priory, a Georgian Grade II listed building, dating from the 1750s, is on the way into town at the top of Canterbury Road.  Recently reburbished to high standards with wireless internet in all rooms, the Priory is run by Tina and Stephen Guy.

The Summerhouse is at Beltinge, slightly out of the town but with great views across the beach and towards Reculver.

There is also a Premier Inn at Beltinge, which has two specially adapted rooms for disabled visitors.
